A Christmas Carol Vocabulary Study List In his popular story, A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens uses the musical term stave to indicate the chapters. Dickens was known, on occasion, to use clever terms to describe the sections of his books. For example, in The Cricket on the Hearth, he calls the chapters chirps. To modern readers, stave might not be the only unfamiliar term in A Christmas Carol. You can refer to the following list of terms, separated by chapter, to help understand the text and grow your vocabulary. Some of the words may be familiar, but others are no longer in common usage. Stave One: Marleys Ghost Dickens begins his novella by introducing the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, his poor clerk Bob Cratchit, and the ghost of Scrooges late partner, Jacob Marley. John Wilkes Booth, born May 10, 1838, was an actor who performed throughout the country in many plays. He was the lead in some of William Shakespeare's most famous works. Diversity It is in the interest of any organization, be it in the public or private sector, to create a diverse workforce environment. Low Participation Rates amongst Latino Parents in Education and Metho
One of the most crucial topics in education is the involvement of parents in their childââ¬â¢s school as well as their education. For the past few decades research has been conducted about the involvement of parents in their community schools as well as the influence that is has. However, it has been noted that it is within minority communities and families where there is the least amount of involvement in their childââ¬â¢s school and education, more so in Latino communities. Although the amount of involvement does not necessarily reflect the parents concern of the childââ¬â¢s academic performance, educators have proclaimed that parental involvement does in fact help the student perform academically better: ââ¬Å"Various studies indicate that parental involvement is salient in determining how well children do in school at both the elementary and secondary school levelsâ⬠(Christian et. al., 1998). Yet, it has come to many educational leaders attention that there has b een a steady decline in parental involvement across the country and Latino and other minority communities seem to have the lowest number of participation in their school. Many researchers have investigated and still do to find the cause of why there is a lack of parents involved in school within these minority communities. ââ¬Å"Parental involvement has become of the centerpieces of educational dialogue among educators, parents, and political leaders. The presence of more parents in the workforce, the fast pace of modern society as a while and the declining role of the family have all been reasons that some social-scientist have pointed to explain an apparent decline in parental involvement in educationâ⬠(Coleman & Hoffer, 1987). High School and Health Service
As a highschool student I'm starting to set my goals for my future. Through my highschool years Im planning on taking the health service pathway as my elective. This core is for students who plan to pursue careers in the health service industry. For my sophomore year I'm planning on taking health service career pathway, this core will help me gain essential knowledge and skills about major body system and more. This can also help me learn to apply effective communication skills and technologies in the delivery of health care. For my junior year I'm also planning to take clinical health, this core will help me combiand information common to all healh careers.Lastly for my senior year I'm planning on taking medical biotechnology, this core will help me learn the different technique used in biotechnology and genetic engineering by hands-on laboratory training. I am also planing on setting up a schedule to be an intern for a doctor from Queens Medical Hospital. I could watch and intervie w him on what he does as a OBGYN, this could help me expierince and see how my future can turn out. This my highschool goals that can set me up for my real life goals. Now it's time to plan the last stage before reality, things I'm going to do to reach my goals to have a good future. I'm planing to attend University of Hawaii Manoa or UH Manoa to get a doctor of medicine degree.UH Manoa is located at beautiful Manoa Valley, just outside downtown Honolulu, Hawaià »i on the island of Oà »ahu, this school was founded on 1907. There's a total of 20, 426 students , 14,655 undergraduates , 5,771 graduates and professionals, and 905 unclassified. It cost $31,608 per year plus additional $670 for student fees, and also if I decide to dorm it, it would cost $2721 per year. To provide for my college funds and fees I can apply for finical aid. There's three types of financial aid, there's grants , loans, and scholarship.Grants is a financial award given by the government to an eligible stude nt. Loan is money you can borrow from the bank and you are responsisble to pay it back a year after you start working. Lastly, scholarship is an award of financial aid for a students who does well academically. I'm interested in receiving scholarship because I know I'm able to do good on my acedemics and that could provide me money to help me fund for my college. Im will start funding for my college by working part time jobs and applying for different types of scholarships and grants. This my last planning stage before I face the world and reality. This part is the hardest and the most fun stage,à reality.This is when everything I've work hard for is going to be worth it. This is the part where I work even harder and loving what I do. I'm going to be Dr. Renuma Elisha Arcega Reyes as OBGYN at the big hospital helping women shape the future and giving life to a beautiful individual. I'm also planning on opening up my own clinic where I can have a pediatrician across my office and a little play room for the kids. I want to help women take good care of their health as well as their offspring. I also wanted to buy my own two story house and buy my parents their own house. Now this is my plans for my future, the things that I want to have and achieve what I've work hard for.There's so much things in life that I want to achieve and discover. Planning what's ahead of me is very important, to have a better future for my family and I. Not only that, I also what to be a great helper and a good source of our community. I want be known as a great doctor that could provide service for the people and the community. I also want all the womens and their babies to have a good and health life styles. Those were my plans that could lead to a good life and better future.
